Twitter has insisted there are no signs Rep. Maxine Waters’ account was hacked and erased, despite her raising the alarm Tuesday on her still-active account.
The California Democrat had insisted that she had “been hacked and my Twitter account has been erased.”
“I know who has done this. I will take care of this,” she insisted on @RepMaxineWaters, which has a blue tick verifying it is official.
The message baffled followers who noted the account as well as another she has, @MaxineWaters, were both active and not erased — and Twitter later confirmed nothing suspicious appeared to have happened.
“At this time, we’ve identified no signs of account compromise,” A Twitter spokesperson told Reuters.
The conclusion was reached after the social media team had opened “lines of communication with her office and have worked with them to ensure the account is secure.”
Waters, chair of the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
