North Korean hackers have reportedly tried to access the networks of South Korean companies developing coronavirus vaccines.
Ha Tae-Keung, a member of the national assembly, told the News1 agency on Friday that he was briefed by the National Intelligence Service on the attempted hacking into unspecified drugmakers in the country.
Tae-Keung told the outlet North Korea’s hacking attempts were foiled.
News of the attempted breach into South Korean drug companies comes two weeks after Microsoft said Russian and North Korean governments tried to hack into networks of seven pharmaceutical companies making the COVID-19 vaccine.
The targeted firms and research organizations are based in the US, Canada, India, South Korea, most of which have coronavirus vaccines in “various stages of clinical trials,” according to the company.
